Everyone loves a good bento box. Seeing intricate scenes come to life in a frame of food is an awesome artform, and we’d argue that no one does it better than our friend Anna the Red.
And so we’re launching our first ever Dream Bento Contest! Leave a comment detailing the bento of your wildest dreams. Anna the Red will hand-select one bento box to make, and the lucky entrant will see it come to life!
Guidelines:
- No realistic food art of a person (i.e. celebrities, political figures, etc.)
- No vulgar themes (i.e. genitals, bodily functions, etc.)
- Anna the Red will pick the winner from people who leave blog comments here between June 16, 2010, 12:00 pm EST to June 23, 2010, 11:59 pm EST. She will create the bento and we will share the winning entry on Epicute and My Food Looks Funny on July 1, 2010.

Totally, a scene from the anime sakura wars would work for a bento.
Please please please do the Lorax by Dr Suess. The bright colors would look so cool and this was my favorite story growing up.
All these character ideas are great, but you should be more abstract. Like make obsolete consoles being devoured or destroyed by the new hotness. Or an iPhone stomping on one of those google phones. Or things not typically considered food, like old shoes or tin cans. Maybe I don’t get bento box art, but I think characters are too obvious now.
I’d love to see a Porco Rosso bento, with a red plane and a pig pilot! We already know Anna the Red always aces Miyazaki kyarabens!

I like Japanese mythology, so a bento of various Japanese youkai/monsters would be cool. A kappa of cucumbers and a kitsune of fried tofu…
I would LOVE so see a good Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Bento. Something with Sailor Moon and maybe luna or Chibiusa. I think it would be both challenging and EPIC at the same time!
It would be awesome to have little red riding hood and the big bad wolf!
I would love a Star Trek bento, with the original Enterprise, Captain Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, or perhaps an alien scene with a moonscape.
Do a Disney theme!
Like the Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast.
Or do a Death Note themed bento.
OR maybe a geisha one.
How about a lolcat? Like “you eated my cookie?” (from the one with two standing cats saying, “I made you a cookie but I eated it.” “you eated my cookie?”). There must be some without a lot of words.
Or just a Momma cat nursing her kittens would be great. (even if not very inspired)
I’m going in a completely different direction. How about a social commentary: fish/sushi covered in black oil from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
