Everyone loves a good bento box. Seeing intricate scenes come to life in a frame of food is an awesome artform, and we’d argue that no one does it better than our friend Anna the Red.
And so we’re launching our first ever Dream Bento Contest! Leave a comment detailing the bento of your wildest dreams. Anna the Red will hand-select one bento box to make, and the lucky entrant will see it come to life!
Guidelines:
- No realistic food art of a person (i.e. celebrities, political figures, etc.)
- No vulgar themes (i.e. genitals, bodily functions, etc.)
- Anna the Red will pick the winner from people who leave blog comments here between June 16, 2010, 12:00 pm EST to June 23, 2010, 11:59 pm EST. She will create the bento and we will share the winning entry on Epicute and My Food Looks Funny on July 1, 2010.

Although, I would also suggest the scene from the original “A New Hope” cover. The one with Luke raising his lightsaber into the sky, the minor characters around his feet, and Vader’s head in the background. That would be epic. :3

I think doing an Elfquest Bento Box would be really awsome.
It should be of Cutter, the Chief of the Wolfriders, and his mate Leetah, the healer of the tribe. He’s the dark and she’s the light. He is a wolfrider and she is a sunfolk. Two very beautiful characters of Elfquest and as different as they are they are an amazing couple to watch interact and read about in the comic. I think it would be an awsome thing for Wendy and Richard to see too.

I second the Cthulhu bento, but I’d much rather see a Katamari bento, complete with prince/ king of all cosmos/ and various cousins.

I’d love to see a Star Wars bento – I’m not terribly fussy about the particulars. An x-wing, or Vader and Luke duelling, or Obi and Ani, or Ani and Padme, or… yea, whatever.

I’ve always wanted to see a Mega Man fighting Metal Man in a bento box. In Metal Man’s stage with the conveyor belts and stuff.
You seem to like video game themes, so how about a classic that was very popular on Google recently: PacMan! A little yellow PacMan chasing a blue ghost, maybe a restored monster chasing him as well, some walls, a piece of bonus fruit.
Or maybe another classic video game, my favorite: Frogger! A frog, some logs, turtles, a river underneath, with river banks.

A bento with all of Studio Ghibli’s amazing creatures (the little ones that is!) For instance: soot sprites, Calcifer, Jiji, forest spirits (from princess mononoke) Little Totoros, Frogs from Spirited away, I’m not too particular, but a Ghibli theme would be amazing! Combining elements from most of Miyazaki’s movies!

I would like to see a chibi version of the stars of shonen jump, like naruto, ichigo(bleach),luffy(one piece) ,yugi(yu-gi-oh),

Definitely a Dr. Seuss character. They’re cartoonish so they couldn’t be too difficult… Maybe the Lorax? That’s my favorite. Him on a stump with some trees next to him.

I would love to see a bento of Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke with the spirit of the forest. You know, the deer looking thing with thousands of antlers? Or when he is the night crawler and all black and oozy, taking over the forest. That would be awesome!!

I’m a bit of a nerd, and I enjoy things related to space exploration. This is the last year for NASA’s shuttle program. I’d like to offer the idea of a shuttle- or NASA-themed bento, in honor of all of the astronauts who have eaten packaged meals that are nowhere near as beautiful as these.
How about a Chinese dragon in a river, holding a pearl? there could be little fish and things, too. This could be pretty instead of just cute.
FIFA World Cup in a bento. Nuff said.

I would love to see a scene from Lord of the Rings. Given the nature of the bento, I kind of think Frodo gazing at the writing on the One Ring for the first time would look pretty awesome and be quite the challenge. The Eye of Sauron with a Nazgul would probably also be quite achievable.
