Okay, I know things change with time and it’s been a while sincE I first heard this term, but isn’t “Oreo” a pretty nasty insult?
No, it actually is a cookie made of two chocolate wafers with a white center. Just like gay really is an emotion and not a sexual orientation or another word for “stupid” or “retarded”.

Well, I think it’s another of those things where it depends on who is saying what to whom. Generally, as to my understanding when one African-American calls another an “Oreo”, it means he has “sold out”, getting an education and a well-paying job in the private sector (or becoming a businessman), often losing what the Vice President called the “Negro dialect”, and, most unforgiveably, an awareness that a culture of dependency where the most important day of the month is when the welfare checks come is ultimately a bad deal for everyone.

I’m pretty sure gay is also a sexual orientation. Isn’t synonymous for ‘stupid’ or ‘retarded’, you’re right. And yes, the word did start off as being only used for happy and carefree and what not, but as someone said before, things DO change with time. It is also now a word for sexual orientation — a word that homosexual people do use.
